ABOUT GODA ALEKNE

PHILOSPHY

In a world that moves at an overwhelming pace, where technology dominates, and humanity is caught in a relentless pursuit of happiness, I seek answers in the wisdom of nature and the knowledge of ancient civilizations. My work is a bridge between the past and the present, a call to remember what has been forgotten.

Throughout history, ancient civilizations and indigenous tribes lived in deep harmony with nature. They understood the cycles of the earth, the power of healing through natural elements, and the significance of spiritual balance. They possessed knowledge about energy, consciousness, and the interconnection of all living things—wisdom that has been gradually lost in modern society. Unlike today, where disconnection and uncertainty prevail, they lived with purpose, deeply attuned to the land, the cosmos, and their inner selves. In contrast, contemporary life is plagued by a void of meaning, where people seek purpose in external achievements, artificial lifestyles, and endless consumption, yet remain unfulfilled.

My artistic practice is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect. Through my sculptures, I channel the essence of ancient knowledge and the rhythms of nature, guiding the viewer inward. The forms I create are influenced by organic structures—weathered stones, ancient totems, the raw, untamed beauty of nature. I work with clay, a primal material born of the earth, shaping it with my hands to reveal a presence that feels both timeless and deeply personal. The process itself is a meditation, a dialogue between material and spirit, echoing the ritualistic practices of early civilizations where art was not mere decoration but a sacred act of communication.

Each of my sculptures carries this philosophy forward, encouraging contemplation and inner harmony. In a time where the world is overpopulated and resources are manipulated in harmful ways, we are suffering physically and spiritually. The food we consume, the air we breathe, the digital distractions that disconnect us from reality—all contribute to a deepening crisis. My work stands as a counterpoint to this chaos, a reminder that wisdom and balance are within reach if we turn inward and listen. The cracks, the curves, and the imperfections in my sculptures are not flaws but markers of authenticity, mirrors of the human experience, and symbols of the unbreakable bond between us and the natural world.

My journey as an artist has been shaped not by a conventional academic path, but through intense dedication and mentorship. While my formal education exposed me to the complexities of human psychology and business, my true artistic foundation was built through years of hands-on experience under the guidance of esteemed ceramicist and sculptor Audronė Skarbaliūtė. This mentorship instilled in me the discipline to embrace the state of flow, to translate emotion into form, and to create with profound intentionality.

Through my work, I strive to evoke a sense of presence, to awaken an ancient knowing that still resides within us. My sculptures are not passive objects; they are vessels of energy, urging viewers to slow down, feel, and remember. In a world that constantly pulls us outward, they invite us to turn inward, to rediscover the lost wisdom of our ancestors, and to restore the harmony that once defined human existence.

BIO

My creative journey began in 2000 when I started studying ceramics and sculpture under the mentorship of esteemed ceramicist Audronė Skarbaliūtė. During my childhood, I actively participated in local competitions and various exhibitions, with some of my early works featured in the book The Miracle of the Moment (authors: Audronė Skarbaliūtė, Leonas Glinskis).

In 2019, my artistic direction matured, developing a distinctive and recognizable style.

In 2020, together with my husband, I co-founded LES ALEKNA, a brand dedicated to hand-built sculptural concrete furniture, seamlessly blending art with interior design.
